24 - Unterstützung für das Engagement unserer Studenten auf den Philippinen
Dear Thomas and Jurgen, I hope that this email finds both you and your families well. The COVID 19 has caught the world and the Philippines people unaware and unprepared. Luzon is under an extended community quarantine until April 30, 2020. Our province was places under quarantine on March 11 implementing a ban on air and water transportation going to Oriental Mindoro and land travel within the province. Aside from the transport ban we also have curfew from 8 pm to 5 am. Following are sharings of our two Stiftunglife alumni who were active during the community quarantine. Best regards Leslie
1. Two weeks ago, a fire broke out in one of the communities in our town leaving ten families homeless. Then on March 11, 2020 due to COVID19 our province was placed under community quarantine. This resulted to the closing down of establishments and lost income especially to those who are daily wage earners. We understand the difficult situation. Our family pooled resources and we were able to pack more than 100 food packs containing 5 kilos of rice and 3 canned goods. Our priority are the fire victims and those who are really in need. To the fire victims, we also gave out some clothes. During the distribution I realized that in times like this your small act of kindness will result in a bigger change. We are planning to make a second wave of help. Kreezha Bei Trajico
2. I work with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the government's lead agency in social protection. Our mandate is to contribute to a better quality of life of the Filipino people. As I am assigned in island communities, I move around a lot in the discharge of my duties and responsibilities especially now that we are under community quarantine. In this time of pandemic we have to ensure provision of safety nets and implementation of social amelioration programs and services that shall serve as subsidy for the provision of basic necessities and tool for the recovery and rehabilitation of the most affected families and individuals. All this we do in coordination with the local government units. We too are front liners. We want the people to stay at home so we go to them to provide some of their basic needs. I am happy that I am given the chance to help in difficult situations. It is not easy but I feel that I help them live. Apriel Nina Perucho
